Jon “Bud” Stiers

stiersJon “Bud” Stiers, age 65, of Newark, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at his residence.

He was born in Coshocton on May 1, 1948, to the late James and Virginia (Goodrich) Stiers.

Bud was a veteran of the United States Air Force and Air National Guard serving over 12 years.  He was a member of North East Christian Church in Lexington, KY; he was an accomplished writer who has had several articles  published; loved wood working, watching sports, especially the Kentucky Derby, and studying his genealogy.

American FlagBud was very proud of the fact that he was a member of the Cherokee Nation. His Cherokee name was Jon “Running Wolf” Stiers. He also traced his ancestry back to Chief John Ross from the Trail of Tears.

Bud is survived by his wife of 16 years, Terra (Hamilton) Stiers of Newark; five children, James (Lena) Stiers of Columbus, Jon C. Stiers of Coshocton, Tabetha (Andrew) Plunckett of Louisiana, Jason Stiers of Belpre, Ohio, and Jessica (David) Rutherford of Vienna, West Virginia; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Lilly, and Gavin Plunckett; two brothers, Michael J. Stiers of Coshocton  and Jack (Carla) Stiers of Lancaster; nieces and nephew, Mickie Stiers of Columbus, Matt Stiers of Lancaster, Heather McCarty of Thornville, and Angela Bolin of Milford, Melissa Nettles of New Lexington, Crystal Lucas of Shawnee, Jessica Bowers of New Lexington; one aunt, Charlotte (Bob) Zimmerman of Arizona; one uncle Jack Stiers of Arizona; father and mother-in-law, Ralph (Barb) Hamilton of Springfield; sister and brother-in-law, Tina (John) Jackson of Junction City; brother-in-law, Harold Hamilton of Nelsonville,  and his best friend, his dog, Konda.

Bud is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Debbie Stiers, granddaughter, Gloria Plunckett, and aunt, Donna Duling.

Per Bud’s wishes, a cremation will take place with burial to follow on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Ceder Hill Cemetery in Newark with the Licking County Veterans Alliance preforming military honors. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Mike Stiers’ residence.
