ZANESVILLE – Nearly 70 area students representing five districts participated in the recent God, Flag and Country speech competition sponsored by the Zanesville Fraternal Order of Eagles #302 and coordinated by the Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center (MVESC).

The first place winners were: 10-11 age group – Caroline Pinson from Zanesville City Schools; 12-13 age group – Sophie Meiser from Coshocton City Schools; 14-15 age group – Maddy Meiser from Coshocton City Schools.

The winners in each division will advance to the zone level in Bellefontaine in April. The local competition was held in the John McIntire Library auditorium.

Since 1967, the God, Flag and Country Oratory Program has been an integral part of the Fraternal Order of Eagles’ drive to build patriotism and instill a sense of pride within our youth. The program invites children between the ages of 10 and 15 to prepare a three-minute speech about what God, their flag or their country means to them.
