MILLERSBURG – People from all over Ohio and a few from other states came to Chestnut Ridge Sewing in Millersburg to visit with a special guest.

Hanspeter Ueltschi, the owner of Bernina, was at the Millersburg store on April 26 to meet and greet with customers and share about the company’s past, present and future. He also signed autographs, including putting his signature on a few Bernina sewing machines, but wasn’t the only one giving gifts. He received an umbrella made out of Bernina fabric that was created by Angie Schmoldt.

“I thought it was something different,” she said. “Not many people make umbrellas.”

Schmoldt traveled to the Bernina event from Brunswick Hills.

“I love everything about Bernina,” she said. “They are quality products and the company is still family owned.”

Bernina will celebrate its 125 anniversary next year and Ueltschi said his children will be the fifth generation owners.

“I feel people appreciate the quality of our machines,” he said. “We know we aren’t just selling a product to people. People get very emotional about their sewing machines and we want to get their feedback. We are proud to be able to do a good job for people.”

Dawn Krier from Chestnut Ridge Sewing said it was an honor to have Ueltschi visit the store.

“This is huge,” she said. “He chose to visit us because of our sales numbers.”
