Beverly Jo White

| September 11, 2017

COSHOCTON – Sister Beverly Jo White was born July 5, 1956 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  She passed away on September 8, 2017 at the age of 61. She and her five siblings were raised primarily in Minneapolis, Minnesota; however because of their father’s job with the Federal government, the family moved several times; and the children also attended schools in Madisonville, Ohio and Berkley, California. As a teenager, Beverly enjoyed sports, and she loved playing basketball on her junior high school team. As an adult, she enjoyed watching boxing, football, tennis, movies and listening to music. She also loved fixing meals for those who came to visit her.

Early in life, she became that family member who was the glue. She reached out to extended family and friends from childhood. Although Beverly never had children of her own, she was God mother to her 11-month-old great niece Yoko.  Beverly accepted this position, although she told her niece, “Aren’t I a little too old to be a God mom”. Beverly had a host of nieces and nephews she dearly loved and spoiled. At Auntie Jo Jo’s house, nieces and nephews could jump on the bed and stay up late watching movies. Before her disability, Beverly worked in customer service and in sales positions.

In the weeks before her death, Beverly would come in and work at her family member’s business.  She was happy working in the kitchen. They had talked of her making the caramel cake her mother had taught her to make. One week before her death she was there to support and assist her mother, who was under-going surgery, and she stayed with her mother following surgery, up until her own medical appointment the day before she passed. Although Beverly lived with a condition called heart failure; her heart failure was limited only to her physical body. Beverly’s heart was loving, generous, and comical. She was honest about life and did not pretend. In 1984, at the funeral service of Beverly’s dad, the (late) Bishop W. B. Harris spoke this of Joseph White: “If you were not a person in need, you probably did not truly know this man.” Those same sentiments were true of Beverly “Jo” White.

Beverly is preceded in death by her dad, Senior Deacon Joseph White. She is survived by her mother, Advanced Senior Mother Beverly Joyce White, five siblings, Brother Keith White, Michael White (Laura), Elderess Kathryn Pollard (Ronald), Gilbert White (Amy), and Joseph White (Felicia), and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family is thankful for all acts of kindness during this difficult time.

Services for Sister Beverly Jo White will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. at The Little Mission of The Supreme House of Jacob, Inc., with Honorary Senior Bishop J. Matthias Pearson officiating.
