Dale B. ‘Red’ Parker

Parker DaleUSFlagSunlightHC1311_X_300_C_YCOSHOCTON – Dale B. “Red” Parker, 87, passed away peacefully May 14, 2015 at Walnut Grove Nursing & Rehab Center in Coshocton from complications after several recent surgeries at Grant Hospital.

He was born in Redfield, South Dakota and was the son of the late Dama C. Luke and Jesse E. Parker. His early education began in a one room school house in the middle of a prairie where he rode his pony 7 miles to school daily.  He won the South Dakota state speaking contest at 7 years old. When he was 15 his family moved to Ohio and he continued his education in the Warsaw and Roscoe Schools, where he excelled as an athlete, especially basketball. He became known for his left handed hook shots. He attended Mt. Union College and graduated from Kelly’s Barber College as a Master Barber. He was in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for 2 years. After the service, he finished his 2 year apprenticeship in Newark where he worked for 6 years. He was a small business owner and owned and operated Parker’s Barber Shop in Coshocton for 52 years.

Dale served on Coshocton City Council for 10 years. He was a volunteer coach and started a grade school basketball program in Three Rivers School. His last class played on River View’s state boys championship team in 1975. He was a 65 year member of the Roscoe United Methodist Church and a 60 year member of the Walhonding Valley Grange. In 2004 he received an award for his contributions for years supporting Coshocton City Schools programs.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth, his beloved son-in-law, Daniel C. Duren, two grandchildren, Drew Denise and Benjamin Parker Duren, brother-in-laws, Clyde (Donna) Young, Albert (Martha) Young, and Marvin Rodgers.  Along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, especially Wanda Dworkin, Elizabeth Yaw, Michelle Thomas, Elvin Young, Wayne Young, & David Rodgers. Cousins, Marianne Englet and Nelson Hall.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie Parker Duren, who died Dec. 24, 2013. A  sister-in-law, Lillian Young Rodgers, brother-in-laws, Robert (Dorothy) Young & Dale (Doris) Young. Cousins, Berton & Lyle Englet.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 3-5 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw. The Coshocton County Veterans Council will perform military services at the end of visitation. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m at the Roscoe United Methodist Church with Pastor Dale Sutton officiating.
