Donald R. Akers

AkersCONESVILLE- Donald Robert Akers, 82, passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday, Aug. 5, 2016.

He was born Dec. 27, 1933 in Shinnston, WV to the late Charles and Maude Mae (O’Dell) Akers.  He was a graduate of Shinnston High School and worked as a journeyman machinist before retiring from Cooper Industries.  He was a member of Christ Church United Methodist.  Don enjoyed reading, gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.  He loved and watched every West Virginia Mountaineers game played.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years of marriage, Evelyn Colean (Boshnett) Akers of Conesville; a son, Greg (Brenda) Akers of Newcomerstown; five grandchildren, Lora, Lisa, Nicole, and Emily Akers of Shinnston, WV, and Tyler Lane of Clarksburg, WV; two great-granddaughters, Avery & Mia of West Virginia; two great-grandsons, Jordan & Jaxon of Maryland; a brother, Gene (Elaine) Akers of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald R. Akers II; and brothers Orville, Lewis, Jack, Joe, and Charles “June” Akers Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2016 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Pastor Mark Granger officiating.  Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Coshocton County Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard.  Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11th at the funeral home.  www.fischerfuneralhome.com
