Human remains found near Mohawk Dam

COSHOCTON – On June 21, 2017, the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to finding human remains in our county.

The caller, who was arrowhead hunting in a field at the time, stumbled across what he believed to be human bones near a field in the area above Mowhawk Dam.  Deputies and Dr. Gwinn, the Coshocton County Coroner, responded to the scene.  Dr. Gwinn confirmed that the remains were that of a human and they appeared to have been there a long time.

On June 22, 2017, Detectives and agents from BCI conducted an excavation of the site and removed the remains from the scene.  The remains have been sent to the Licking County Coroner’s Office for further investigation.

Assisting detectives with this ongoing investigation were BCI, Muskingum Watershed, Coshocton County Prosecutor’s Office and Coshocton County Coroner.
