John J. Mencer

John J. Mencer, 89, of West Lafayette passed away at Oak Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation on Monday May 6, 2013.  John was born in Roscoe, Ohio on October 20, 1923 to the late John and Viola (Mulford) Mencer.  He graduated from Roscoe School, served in the US Army during WWII earning a Purple Heart, a life member Disabled American Veterans, V.F.W. 1330 and American Legion.  John is survived by his wife Bonnie J. (Bice) Mencer, whom he married on September 14, 1944; a son Terry L. (Terri Jean) Mencer of West Lafayette; a daughter Sherry (Mike) Higginbotham of Coshocton; eleven grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; a sister Anna Mae Roahrig of Plainfield; several nieces and nephews.  Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his two grandchildren Ray Tomack and Wayne Allen Mencer; two brothers Louis “Mope” Mencer and Clarence “Tuner” Mencer; two sisters Esther Bice and Grace Wilden.  Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Thursday May 9, 2013 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM where funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Steve Young officiating.  Interment will follow in Coshocton County Memorial Gardens and Coshocton County Veterans Honor Guard will perform military honors.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Tridia Hospice, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  An online memorial is located at www.themillerfuneralhome.com .
