Local Bounty update

| June 19, 2014

Good Rainy Morning,

Hope all of you are staying dry on this soggy day.

Did you know?
Eat your greens!
Dark green leafy vegetables are, calorie for calorie, probably the most concentrated source of nutrition of any food. They are a rich source of minerals (including iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium) and vitamins, including vitamins K, C, E, and many of the B vitamins. They also provide a variety of phytonutrients, which protect our cells from damage and our eyes from age-related problems, among many other effects. Dark green leaves even contain small amounts of Omega-3 fats.

Green Leafy Vegetables – Nutritional Powerhouses

Vendor Updates:

Flying Pig Farm

Our sprout order didn’t come in time to start sprouts for this week but look for new offerings next week! I’m trying mung beans so we’ll see how they do. Mustard greens are winding down so get them while you can. Small size bags of granola will be available along with our big bags. Easy to grab for a quick snack on the go. Thank goodness for the rain. Our sweet corn is soaking it up!

Hillbippie

Our power went out last night in the storm and we are still out.  That means no bread today, as I bake mine on Thursday mornings so it is super fresh for you.  If my power is restored I will have bread @ LB tomorrow.  Thanks for your understanding, our garden sure loved the rain anyway 🙂

Keene Creek Farm

We put a “please rush” order in with our butcher to have our fresh pork products ready for us to pick up this afternoon. So, we should have sausage, brats and loin chops restocked for Local Bounty tomorrow (Friday). The smoked meats are taking a nice long nap in the smokehouse, so they won’t be done for a little while longer. And, we promise to keep you posted. You can always get the most current updates on the arrival of fresh pork on our facebook page. Many thanks

Strawberry Hill Farm

Our strawberries are almost finished now—it was a short and skimpy season for us. Lettuce, however, has been a different story. It continues to grow well. This week we’re bringing lots of beautiful romaine. among other items. We’re enjoying the abundance of greens while we can!
