That was quite a game. The Buckeyes recorded a big win against the Nittany Lions in exciting fashion while the Houston Astros did the same against the Dodgers in a home run hitting slugfest in game 5 on Sunday night, Oct. 29. Of course, to ensure that I did not turn into a pumpkin, I was not aware of this excitement until Monday morning. It’s just as well I suppose. I am not sure I could take the wonder of it all. Can the Buckeyes continue winning and take that success to the Big10 championship game against – most likely – the Wisconsin Badgers?

Our local high school youth continue to play hard and work hard at academics, athletics and in the music and art fields. River View and Coshocton played a terrific football game to end the season in this much heralded rivalry. Congrats to the Redskins on pulling out the victory. At the other end of the county the Ridgewood Generals met the Newcomerstown Trojans in their season ending rivalry as well with the Generals winning. Al three county high school bands are headed to state. Way to go!

The RV boys’ soccer team remains in the tournament – now advancing to the regional semi-final. RV boys cross country will be well represented this weekend at the state meet.

For those that don’t know – and I doubt there are many that are unaware by now – the Dover and New Philadelphia regular season finale went out with a bang in the 114th meeting of these two football titans with a 45-38 win by the Quakers in four overtimes. That’s right – four.

Has that much changed since last fall when we headed into the Presidential election with a lot at stake and a plethora of negativity surrounding both campaigns? Thank goodness this is a much less hyped election – except for Issue 2. What is up with this? Who can afford to spend that much money on a campaign? And one has to ask, why? There must be a lot of money stake, right? I mean, when a campaign spends millions of dollars to sway voters their way, there has to be a payoff of some kind, right?

Honestly, I am not sure which way to vote on this one. At this point, when someone spends that much money can they be trusted? You have to decide this one on your own. I am sure that there is a mountain of information on the internet that can help you make the right decision. I hope.

What will the indictment of Paul Manafort mean for the Trump Presidency? The former Trump campaign manager laundered millions of dollars from gains in the Ukraine and avoided taxes to the U.S. on that money. That is a rather brief comment and there is much more to the story and I am sure that much more will come out of this.

Tax reform is coming? Simplification is the key to the plan – allowing those that file taxes – or pay to have their taxes prepared – to whittle down several hours into a relatively minor process. At least that is what is being reported. The final plan approved by Congress, can, of course, make a lamb look like a lion. And we all know how that can turn out. It’s usually bad for the lamb.
