MVHC announces free Cervical Cancer screenings

| January 25, 2017

COSHOCTON – Beginning Feb. 1 and continuing through April, MVHC will provide a free cervical cancer screening to any woman age 21 to 65 who reside in Muskingum, Morgan, Coshocton or Guernsey County. Appointments for the Pap test can be made by calling the MVHC Centralized Call Center at (740) 891-9000 or (888) 454-5157.

Annually, nearly 13,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and it is estimated that over 4,000 women will die from the disease this year. But, according to Jeanie Blake, MVHC Chief Quality Officer, when detected at an early stage the five-year survival rate for women with invasive cervical cancer is 92 percent.

“We hope that all women in the four counties we serve will take advantage of this opportunity and call to schedule an appointment. The few minutes it takes to have the test completed can literally save a person’s life,” Blake said.

Funding for the free screenings is being provided by the Patient Care Charitable Fund, which was started in 2014 to support the mission of MVHC. To learn more about the fund, call Randy Cochrane at (740) 891-9099.

MVHC is a federally qualified health center which provides quality, accessible and affordable primary health care to more than 35,000 patients in the four county area.
