River View board approves base salary change for school year

WARSAW – The River View Board of Education met July 13.

Prior to the regular meeting a public notice meeting was held for the purpose of allowing public participation in regards to the retiring and re-employment of Terri Lowery, literacy coach and Sharon Wachtel, EMIS coordinator back to their current positions with the River View Local School District beginning with the 2017 – 2018 school year. All public participation will be taken into consideration before the action of rehiring these individuals takes place at the next scheduled board meeting.

During the regular meeting the board the following items:

  • Approved the base salary change for the 2017 – 2018 school year under the master agreement between the River View Education Association and the River View Board of
  • Approved Resolution 2017 – 28 in which the River View Board of Education authorizes the provided services from the Jefferson County Educational Service Center to operate an alternative school in Coshocton County.
  • Approved the resignation of high school associate principal, Josh Branch, effective July 27,
  • Approved the resignation of Warsaw Elementary principal, Sherri Lawrence, effective July 26,
  • Approved the resignation of junior high intervention specialist, Kelsey Willoughby, effective August 13,
  • Approved the resignation of high school teacher and senior class advisor, Mark Gibson, effective August 13, 2017.
  • Approved the resignation/retirement of high school teacher, Bob Forgrave, effective 13, 2017.
  • Approved the resignation of Warsaw Elementary teacher, Hillary Kennedy, effective August 13,
  • Approved the recommendation to hire Ashley Storms as intervention specialist at junior high for the 2017 – 2018 school year. (pending completion of background check and all paperwork)
  • Approved the recommendation to hire Katie Sampsel as junior high math teacher for the 2017 – 2018 school (pending completion of background check and all paperwork)
  • Approved the recommendation to change the position of Tracey Herron from district curriculum coordinator to Warsaw Elementary Principal and Federal Programs Coordinator ($4,000 stipend) effective 2017 – 2018 school
  • Approved the recommendation to change the position of Christie Ireland from district technology coach to district curriculum coordinator effective 2017 – 2018 school

Personnel changes for the 2017-2018 school year include:

  • Kecia Buxton: From junior high language arts to business teacher at the high school
  • Todd Liberatore: From Warsaw third grade to Warsaw fourth grade teacher
  • Jandi Smailes: From Warsaw fifth/sixth grade to Warsaw third grade teacher
  • Amy Fox: From junior high math to junior high social studies
  • Wesley Shontz: From junior high social studies to junior high language arts

The board also approved the recommendation to hire John Turnbull as River View High School Associate Principal for the 2017 – 2018 school year, pending completion of background check and all paperwork. At the meeting the board also approved to give a onetime $400 stipend (one per household) to any classified staff member or administrator who is currently enrolled in the district insurance plan. They then approved a change in the salary package of the superintendent as follows: One percent pay increase on total compensation, matching $50 payment on annuity of choice, eligible to receive $400 one time stipend for insurance. A change in the salary package of the treasurer as follows also was approved: Increase pay to $75,000, pick up on pick up of retirement, eligible to receive $400 one time stipend for insurance.

Added personnel changes for the school year were: Mike Gray from intervention specialist at high school to physical education teacher at high school and Connie Pickett from intervention specialist at Union to fifth/sixth grade math at Warsaw.
