Roscoe Village announces plans for Christmas candlelightings

| November 29, 2017

COSHOCTON – The 46th annual Christmas Candlelighting Ceremonies in Roscoe Village will be held as follows: The Roscoe Village Foundation will host the candlelighting ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 2 and the Coshocton Visitors’ Bureau, sponsored by the Roscoe Village Business Association, will host the candlelighting ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 9.

Visitors to the candlelightings will experience a truly old-fashioned Christmas. Listen to a Christmas story and enjoy holiday music as everyone gathers around the stage in the center of the village to witness the lighting of a 30-foot Christmas tree. The honorary candlelighter will light his/her candle from the main candle on stage, then the flame is passed through the crowd. As the candle lighting spreads, each guest joins in the singing of “Silent Night,” until everyone’s candle is glowing. Both candlelighting ceremonies begin at 6 p.m. Parking and admission is free to the public.

A variety of family fun activities will be offered throughout the day including: Horse-drawn carriage rides, roasted chestnuts, strolling carolers, hands-on crafts, A Roscoe Christmas tour, and holiday shopping and dining in Roscoe Village. Free cookies and hot-mulled cider will be available later in the afternoon at the center of the village. Activities may vary for each Christmas Candlelighting and some may require a fee to participate.

Returning for the second year, on Saturday, Dec. 16, is the Christmas Crafters Event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Lock Landing, located on the lower level of the visitor center. Crafters will showcase homemade items that are perfect for holiday gifting.
