RVHS and Redskin swimmers finish strong at district

COLUMBUS – Thirteen River View Black Bear and four Coshocton Redskin swimmers competed in the Ohio Division II Central/ East/ Southeast District Championship Meet at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion at The Ohio State University on Friday, Feb. 17. The top two in each event earned automatic berths at the State Championship Preliminary Meet, with 24 total qualifying spots available. The River View girls finished 14th out of 33 teams while winning four medals, while the boys team finished 10th out of 39 teams and brought home 10 total medals.

Medalists for the Black Bears include the 200 Free Relay group of Lindsey Ashcraft, Josie Fornara, Jesse Vandenbark, and Shawna Shroyer, seventh, and finishing 51st overall in the state (1:49.10), the group of Nate Cooper, Caleb Fischer, Jake Mitchell, and RJ Hammond, fifth, and 31st in the state in the 200 Medley Relay (1:44.34), and seventh, 32nd in the state, in the 200 Free Relay, Nate Cooper, fifth, 34th in the state, in the 100 Backstroke (57.31), and Caleb Fischer, fifth, 27th in the state, in the 100 Breaststroke (1:01.71).

Additionally for River View, Lindsey Ashcraft was 18th in the 200 Individual Medley (2:26.53), and 25th in the 100 Breast (1:14.91), Shawna Shroyer was 25th in the 100 Back (1:09.26), Jake Mitchell was 22nd in the 50 Freestyle (23.70), and 21st in the 100 Butterfly (100.89), Nate Cooper was 18th in the 50 Free (23.40), Caleb Fischer was 19th in the 100 Fly (1:00.09), Dylan Harsh was 29th in both the 200 Free (2:10.18), and 500 Free (6:11.98), the group of Josie Fornara, Kenzie Hudson, Emily Jacobs, and Jesse Vandenbark was 16th in the 400 Free Relay (4:22.49), and the 400 Free Relay group of Zared Tumblin, Trase Berry, Dylan Harsh, and RJ Hammond was 15th (3:49.93).

The River View girls 200 medley relay team of Shawna Shroyer, Lindsey Ashcraft, Josie Fornara and Jesse Vandenbark finished ninth with a time of 2:05.49.

For the Redskins, Emily Casey was 29th in both the 100 Fly (1:10.50), and the 500 Free (6:15.82), and the 400 Free Relay of Bella Hall, Carlie Williams, Reanna Ackley, and Emily Casey was 22nd (4:29.90).
