RVJHS track team competes at state meet

WARSAW – The River View Junior High track and field team sent 15 athletes to the 11th annual Middle School Track & Field State Championships, held May 24, at Dublin Scioto High School.

The eighth graders competing were Tiffany Alford, Alicia Lonsinger, Cody Albertson, Isaiah Cameron, Tallon Edgel and R.J. Hammond. The seventh graders were Mallory Aronhalt, Laci Jacobs, Karlie Lahna, Kaitlyn Richard, Devin Barnett, Evan Beatty, Donnie Kehl, Andrew Martin and Brenden Shrimplin.

Competing against more than 50 Division II schools from across the state, the Black Bears (coached by Cyrus Granger and Doug Sampsel) fared well and earned top 10 finishes in many events.

Highlights from the meet include:

  • Alicia Lonsinger finished seventh overall in the 100 meter dash and 10th overall in the 200 meter dash.
  • Isaiah Cameron finished eighth overall in the 400 meter dash.
  • The girls 4-by-100 meter relay team finished in eighth place, with a team of Jacobs, Richard, Lahna and Lonsinger.
  • The boys 4-by-100 meter relay team finished in fourth place, with a team of Martin, Cameron, Shrimplin and Hammond.
  • The boys 4-by-400 meter relay team finished in fifth place, with a team of Cameron, Martin, Edgel and Hammond.
  • Mallory Aronhalt finished fourth among seventh graders in the shot put.
  • Karlie Lahna finished seventh among seventh graders in the 100 meter dash.
  • Brenden Shrimplin finished third among seventh graders in the 100 meter dash and fourth among seventh graders in the 200 meter dash.
  • Devin Barnett finished fourth among seventh graders in the long jump.
  • Evan Beatty finished fifth among seventh graders in the discus throw.

The state championship track meet marks the conclusion of a junior high track season that saw the Black Bears compete well in nine separate meets against opponents from the East Central Ohio League (ECOL) and beyond.
