Uhrichsville area man charged with attempted rape

On Monday, March 2, the sheriff’s office began investigating an adult male who was interacting with a 12 year old juvenile from Coshocton over social media and soliciting her to meet for sex. At this time the special victim’s detective began to pose as the juvenile victim.

On March 5, the adult male suspect requested to meet in person with the juvenile victim to engage in sexual conduct. A sting operation was executed on the suspect in Tuscarawas County.  The male suspect was taken into custody without incident.

On March 9, the adult male, Russell L. Carpenter, a 27 year old man from the Uhrichsville area, was formally charged with attempted rape, a felony of the first degree.

Assisting the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office with this investigation are the Coshocton County Prosecutor’s Office, ICAC (International Crimes Against Children) and the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office.

This incident remains under investigation by your Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office.
