West Lafayette Chamber holds meeting and dinner

WEST LAFAYETTE – The West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and dinner was held April 28 at the West Lafayette Baptist Church, 688 E. Main St. Social time started at 6 p.m. with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. catered by Schumaker Farms.

The queen and her court were in attendance. All were given the opportunity to say a few words.

Oren Griffith led the meeting following dinner. He talked about upcoming events for the village, including the 68th Homecoming Festival which will be held July 23-25. The parade will be at 7 p.m. Friday, July 24. The theme of the parade will be Troops of the Stars & Stripes. They announced who the Grand Marshal will be this year and honored her with a bouquet of flowers. Marion Sutton of Jones Metal will be the Grand Marshal.

Sept. 11 will be the 65th Anniversary of the Troop Train accident. The chamber is in the process of planning an event to commemorate this milestone.

The evening was capped off with Emily Bradford presenting the Citizens of the Year award to her parents, Oren and Patty Griffith. In a very touching speech that left no doubt in anyone’s mind that they were very deserving of this award, Bradford paid great tribute to her parents. Villages like West Lafayette are fortunate to have individuals like Oren and Patty who are more than willing to give their time and efforts to see the community thrive.
