COSHOCTON – Several women gathered at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 11 for the Women of Witness’s Mother Daughter Tea. Ladies were encouraged to dress up and enjoy tea, a light lunch and games.

Women of Witness (WOW) has been a group in Coshocton since the early 1990s.  “We are an inter-denominational group. Our members come from several churches around the area and every woman is welcome,” said Kathy Hendricks, treasurer for the group. She also added that a woman does not have to be a member of a church – all women are welcome in their group.

“Today, we are going to play games and enjoy fellowship together,” said Hendricks. “WOW wants to be the Lord’s hands and feet in our community.” The group has several ministries to help others in the area. They hand out books bags in the fall. “Last year, we gave out about 400 and we’ll be starting fundraisers for this year, soon.”

They also are the money managers for Chestnut Crossing. “We help wherever there is a need and are in constant contact with Angie Cantrell in the educational center there,” said Hendricks. They also help with the annual block party at Chestnut Crossing.

This year, WOW awarded two scholarships to local girls. Rachel Allen and Leah Lawrence both from River View High School and Perry Chapel Church each won a scholarship this year. “It was too difficult to pick one winner, so this year, we gave two scholarships,” said Hendricks.

A prayer ministry and a jail ministry are also community services the group provides. “We try to connect people with needs to those who can help them,” said Hendricks.
