50 years of River View volleyball being celebrated

WARSAW – Cassidy Dulgar and Bella Heddleson are using their senior project to celebrate 50 years of volleyball at River View High School.

“When Coach Ames and Coach Olinger approached us with the idea we thought it seemed like a lot of work, but we know we can do it,” Dulgar said.

Heddleson said they are looking forward to bringing everyone together who has been a part of the program.

“Volleyball isn’t as appreciated as much as other sports, but it’s important to us,” she said. “I’ve been playing since I was in third grade and by the time I got to junior high I knew everybody because of volleyball.”

Dulgar can remember going to Cub Camps and starting in sixth grade with a travel team.

“Volleyball is family,” she said.

Anyone who has been involved in high school volleyball at River View including previous coaches, players, statisticians, scoreboard keepers, line judges, and more are welcome to attend the anniversary celebration on Saturday, Sept. 29. The ceremony will be held in the high school gym after the varsity game against West Holmes (JV starts at 11 a.m.).

Attendees will be introduced and memorabilia will be on display to help people relive their high school careers. Dulgar and Heddleson also are asking for people to share their memories when they register to attend the event. Those who are veterans will be given a special token and t-shirts are being made to mark the occasion. Donations will be accepted for the volleyball program.

“Coach Olinger and Coach Ames are our mentors for the project and have given us ideas for how to celebrate and now we have to put them into play,” Dulgar said.

The girls have already starting receiving reservations for the celebration and are learning valuable lessons from planning the event.

“We are learning how to organize and about communication,” Dulgar said.

Heddleson agreed with her that communication has been huge.

“I honestly think this is really going to help prepare us for college,” she said.

“Everyone who has ever been associated with volleyball at River View High School is welcome including avid fans and parents,” Dulgar said.
