| September 27, 2021

On Sept. 26, 2021 at approximately 6:56 p.m. the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call in reference to a two-vehicle accident with injury on US 36 near Township Road 1159 in Bethlehem Township.

Upon arrival on scene, it was determined that Shannon Ziegler, (30) years old, of Warsaw, was traveling West on US 36 when Ziegler went off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and went left of center, striking a vehicle driven by Thomas Wiegand, (64) years old, of Dover, in a head-on collision. Thomas had two passengers in the vehicle, Elizabeth Wiegand, (62) years old, of Dover, and Mary Paris, (74) years old, of Portland, Oregon. All occupants in Thomas’s vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means. Thomas and Elizabeth Wiegand were both flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Ziegler was also flown by medical helicopter to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. Mary Paris was transported by emergency squad to Coshocton Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased.

This accident is still an on-going investigation being conducted by the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office and the Coshocton County Prosecutor’s Office.  Alcohol is considered to be a factor in this crash.  Assisting the Sheriff’s Office on scene were the Coshocton County EMS, Walhonding Valley Fire District, MedFlight, Metro Life Flight, Prince’s Wrecker Service, and REACT.
