Betty Jane McCarty

Betty Jane McCarty, 94, of West Lafayette, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021. She was born on July 1, 1926, in Coshocton County to the late James A. and Hattie (Hawkins) Conner.

She was a long time member of the Plainfield Grange, Dutchrun Church and the Plainfield United Methodist Church.

Betty worked on the family farm and for over 40 years in various glove factories including Edmonts, Indianapolis, Ohio and American Glove.

She was an avid bowler, loved to play softball and play cards with Hauzey being her game.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Linda Porteus of Tennessee and Mary Lou Heller of Coshocton; three sons, Roger Hill of West Lafayette, James (Meri Lyn) Hill of Coshocton and David (Pam) Hill of West Lafayette; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and son-in-law, John Porteus.

Along with her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husbands, Chester W. Hill and Duell W. McCarty; her daughter, Nancy Porteus; two sisters, Alice Lucille Ridenbaugh and June C., Mowery; three brothers, Leland, Paul and Alvin Conner; daughter-in-law, Renee Hill; two sons-in-law, Larry Heller and Jerry Porteus; and special friend, Blaine Brenneman.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. Due to health and safety concerns related to COVID-19, social distancing measures will be in place and there will be a limited number of people inside the funeral home at a time. We also ask that you please wear a face mask at all times for the health and safety of our guests and employees.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor John Armstrong officiating. Per Betty’s wishes, a cremation will take place following the services.

The family would like to thank Altercare of Coshocton and Community Hospice for their extended care and compassion to Betty.
