Bob J. Robert Miller

AKRON – Bob (J. Robert) Miller, age 81, passed away November 16, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born May 13, 1937 in Coshocton County, Ohio where he grew up.

After graduating from West Lafayette HS (now Ridgewood HS) he moved to Columbus to obtain a degree in Accounting. After graduation he was hired by Buckeye Union Insurance Company. His career brought him to Akron where eventually he was hired to manage and then purchase Insurance Service Agency.

He served in the Army Reserves as a medic. He was active in the Akron Jaycees, volunteering at the Firestone World Series of Golf, American Golf Classic, Soap Box Derby, saving the Civic Theater, and other charitable causes. He was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge 1923 and American Legion Post 19. He served on the boards of Woodland United Methodist Church, Independent Insurance Agents of Summit County, & Georgetown Condominiums. His hobbies and interests were his boat the J”Bobber”, boating and fishing around the Lake Erie islands, spending summers on Catawba Island with his Skyline View Park family, vacationing in Key West, and attending concerts and plays with his wife, Ellen by his side. They enjoyed foreign travel to Greece, England, France, Germany, and Monaco.

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ellen (nee Buchanan); children, Tim (Katy) Miller, Kris (John) Fiander, Becky Headley, Dan Miller; grandchildren, Ali Miller, Lindsay (Keith) Lewandowski, Casey Miller, Michael and Alex Fiander; and great-granddaughter, Ella Lewandowski. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou (Jim) Overholt, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald, and son-in-law, Carl Headley.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Akron. The family will celebrate his life privately. Adams Mason Funeral Home, (330) 535-9186
