| May 14, 2018

COSHOCTON – Connor Blakley, a sixth grader at Ridgewood Middle School, took home the highly coveted Miss Relay crown after out dancing his nearest competitor in the contest held Saturday morning, May 12 at the fairgrounds.

The contest is typically a highlight of the Relay for Life of Coshocton County and despite fewer contestants than in past years; Connor was just as happy and proud to win. His teammates cheered him on as “Alana,” one of the Little Mermaid’s sisters, wowed the audience with dance moves and responses to emcee Jody Seibert’s questions.

Blakley said, “I feel pretty good about winning. Chrisha (Collins) talked me into doing this. It was a tie between wanting to do it and wanting to think about it. I had fun and would probably do it again. I was doing my dance moves to impress the judges.”

Blakley said that the Relay is, “About helping get money to fight cancer and get a cure for it. It’s a pretty good cause and it’s fun.”

Blakley had a tail as part of his costume, shells in the right places, beads and a feather to complete the “Alana” outfit. “I’ll probably put the trophy on my dresser at home,” he said when asked.
