COSHOCTON – Charlene Jane (Stein) Shamel, age 78, of Coshocton, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017. SHAMEL

Charlene was born in the Baltic area to the late Earl C. and Alta M. (Reidenbach) Stein on June 20, 1939. Charlene graduated from Baltic High School in June of 1957, where she wasa majorette for several years. Shortly after graduation, she married the love of her life, Jim Shamel, on September 14, 1957. Charlene enjoyed spending her free time sewing, reading, and caring for her family. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for many years. Charlene was very involved in her church as a member of the United Methodist Women and various bible study groups. Her favorite hymn was always “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and her favorite scripture was Psalm 34:4, “I sought the Lord, and He answered me; and He delivered me from my fears.” Charlene was diagnosed in her early twenties with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Her faith in God carried her through the debilitating impact of the disease, which included over 40 surgeries. Through every step, Jim was at her side encouraging, comforting, and supporting her. Charlene’s courage, strength, determination, and unwavering faith were an inspiration to many.

Charlene is survived by her loving husband, Jim, three children: Shelley Hulet, Laura Reiss, and Jamie Shamel; eight grandchildren: Jessica, Morgan, Corey, Brian, Paige, Casey, Jeremy, and Kelby; four great-grandchildren: Zyra, Zander, Kendle, and Greyson; and two brothers: Kenny (Sue) Stein and Terry (Elaine) Stein.

Along with her parents, Charlene is preceded in death by her brother, Donald Stein.

Per Charlene’s wishes, a cremation will take place and at a later date, a private graveside service will take place.

In lieu of flowers, gifts, and donations, when there are those who are no longer able to meet you, show your love by meeting them where they are.
