Claire E. Howman

Claire Earl Howman, 69, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 at his residence.

He was born April 25, 1951 in Lodi to Donald E. and Annie (Stahl) Howman. He was a 1969 graduate of Tuslaw High School in Massilon, and The Ohio State University in 1973. He later earned an MBA from Purdue University. He was a proud OSU alumnus and an avid Buckeye fan. He previously had worked at Hillshire Farms in Wisconsin and most recently as a butcher at Giant Eagle in Heath.

He loved horticulture and anything around the farm. He was known throughout the United States for showing rabbits, and was past-President of the Ohio State Rabbit Breeders Association, having been inducted into the OSRBA Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife of the last 8 years, Rita Joy (McFarland) Howman of Nellie, whom he married July 21, 2012; his mother, Annie Howman of Orrville; his beloved and faithful companion and best buddy, “Cooper”; step-children, Bryan (Joanna) Reeb of Blacklick, and Darrin (Stephanie) Reeb of Sunbury; step-grandchildren, Foster & Stella Reeb; his son, Brian (Andrea) Howman of Church Hill, TN; siblings, Martha (Marvin) Byall of Orrville, Ruth (Sheldon) Metcalf of Wooster and John (Marla) Howman of Massillon; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Howman of Cincinnati, and Sharon Howman of Wooster; and many nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Howman; and two brothers, D. Dale Howman and Paul Howman.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 at Darling Run Cemetery, with Pastor Ron Davis officiating. The Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw is handling arrangements.
