Commonwealth Americana officially opens for business

| May 3, 2013

002COSHOCTON – Commonwealth Americana has officially opened for business at Kiefer’s Florist, located at 381 Hill Street in Roscoe Village.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for local artists to showcase their work in Roscoe Village,” said Rob Colby, director of Commonwealth Americana. “All of these artisans haven’t had anywhere to feature their work, so we are really excited to feature their work in Roscoe Village.”

Commonwealth Americana emerged from a conversation four months ago among Colby, Ed Kiefer, Jan Myers, Amy Stockdale, and Mayor Steve Mercer. As the project got underway and local artists who made unique items were found for the new store, Colby commented, “We found some really exciting stuff.”

The new business offers a variety of unique, locally-made items including soaps, glassware, jewelry, textile pieces, woodworking, samplers, sculptures, and much more!

“As we put everything together last night, all the displays, I was pleased and proud to have this displayed in my shop,” said Kiefer. “It’s a nice addition to what we do here and the products we’re showcasing are top quality.”

If the launch is successful, Kiefer and Colby have been speaking with staff at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum who are considering selling their merchandise in their retail space.

“It would be a great opportunity for us to showcase local arts and crafts in a wonderful location like the museum,” said Colby.

If you are interested in becoming a vendor at Commonwealth Americana, email Colby or Kiefer at [email protected]. The new business is hosting an open house today until 6 p.m.
