Council hears concerns from Denman Avenue resident

| October 16, 2019

COSHOCTON – The Coshocton City Council members were addressed by Karen O’Dell during the public input portion of their Oct. 15 meeting.

The Denman Avenue resident shared that about two weeks ago the recycling truck went through her alley in both directions. She said the recycling and trash trucks have caused damage in the alleyway and couldn’t image why they would have to go up and down it more than necessary.

Her second concern was in regards to storm sewers in the South 16th Street and Denman Avenue area.

“They have been clogged for years,” O’Dell said.

The runoff in the area can be very extreme.

“I don’t live down stream of this,” O’Dell said. “I live down river from it.”

Her final concern was about her neighbor’s ornamental grass being planted in a location where people cannot see to pull out on the main road. She wondered why the issue was not taken care of, but Safety Service Director Max Crown said they did address the issue.

“We went out and cut it in July,” Crown said. “It was the day after or that day that you asked about it.”

Crown said he would have the city’s guys work on the issue again.

“Please go look at it,” O’Dell said. “Ornamental grass does not belong on corners.”

During his report Mayor Steve Mercer said the city took in $5,700 in building permits. He also noted that Allwell has started working on its brand new $2.65 million building on the corner of Seventh and Main streets.

Council then went on to pass the following two resolutions:

  • 6-19 a resolution authorizing Frederick T. Wachtel, Coshocton County Engineer, to prepare and submit an application to participate in the Ohio Public Works Commission State Capital improvement and/or local transportation improvement programs and to execute contracts as required.
  • 7-19 authorizing legislation and cooperation agreement for the county resurfacing program 2020 for the county of Coshocton a resolution authorizing Frederick T. Wachtel, Coshocton County Engineer, to prepare and submit an application to participate in the Ohio Public Works Commission State Capital improvement and/or local transportation improvement programs and to execute contracts as required.
