County Health Department to sponsor free scrap tire cleanup day

| October 4, 2018

COSHOCTON – The Coshocton County Health Department is sponsoring a free scrap tire cleanup day for county and city residents on Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds. Vehicle passenger tires only. No heavy unloading equipment at the event.

Mosquitoes can carry diseases such as West Nile Virus, Encephalitis, Zika, and many more. Mosquitoes will breed in any type of stagnant water source. Getting rid of breeding sources such as tire piles is one step in reducing mosquito populations and diseases.

The tire cleanup day will be 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. or until the trailer is full. The trailer holds between 1,200 – 1,500 tires. No more than 50 tires will be unloaded per load. If you have more than 50 tires, you will have to make another trip.

The event will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The goal is to collect 1,200 – 1,500 scrap tires which will be recycled at a later date. Once the goal is reached, the collection will stop. Volunteers will help unload tires by hand.

If you are hauling more than 10 tires at a time, contact 740-295-7305, county, or 740-622-1736 for Joe Garret, city, or by email at [email protected] or [email protected]. You will need an abatement letter. This cleanup was funded through the Ohio EPA Mosquito Control Grant funding 2018.
