Landis Paper PictureErnest E. “Ernie” Landis, 77, of West Lafayette, passed away at his home peacefully on Friday January 31, 2014.

Ernie was born in Canton, Ohio on March 11, 1936 to the late Willard and Goldie (Wendell) Landis.

He was a member of the Newcomerstown Class of 1956 and served in the United States Army from 1954-1958. Ernie was a truck driver throughout his life, and started his own trucking company in 1976, Landis Trucking.  He was a life member of Newcomerstown Elks Lodge 1555, American Legion and Team Roping Association. Ernie loved spending time with his horses and team roping, avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and loved having his canine companion Sassy by his bedside.

He is survived by his loving wife Shirley (Shaffer) Landis who he married November 27, 1958, they had just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary; son Duane (Kristy) Landis of Coshocton; daughter Terri L. Landis of Groveport; grandson Morgan Landis of West Lafayette; two brothers Paul (Dorothy) Landis of Phoenix, AZ and Wendell (Norma) Landis of Lancaster, SC; several nieces and nephews.

USFlagHC1302Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his five brothers Willard Jr., Neil, Donald, Loren and Robert Landis; three sisters Mildred Wakley, Dot Kunstmann and Patricia Landis.

A graveside memorial service will be held in West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown on Saturday February 15, 2014 at 3:30 PM with Lloyd Tenney officiating and Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard performing military honors.
