Experience The Rolling Stones concert film under the stars

| September 15, 2020
It’s been over 181 days since the Performing Arts Center has hosted an event, and they announced a new outdoor event. For the first time ever, attendees can enjoy a concert film projected onto the outside of the Performing Arts Center from the comfort of a seating pod.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, experience The Rolling Stones concert film, “Shine a Light,” under the stars from the Performing Arts Center parking lot.
“We think this will be a fun and unique experience for the community to enjoy,” said David Mitchell, general manager of the Performing Arts Center. “We’re utilizing our existing parking spaces to create seating pods that can accommodate up to eight individuals. By only selling every other parking spot, there will be over 9 feet of physical distance between groups of people. This will ensure a safe environment for everyone to share an experience of an incredible concert film featuring performances by The Rolling Stones during their 2006 concert tour.”
Famed director Martin Scorcese filmed The Rolling Stones over a two-day period at the intimate Beacon Theater in New York City in fall 2006. Cinematographers captured the raw energy of the legendary band. Songs featured in the documentary include “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Start Me Up” and “Shine a Light.” The movie is rated PG-13 and is 121 minutes in length.
Sponsoring the event is First Federal Community Bank. “We’re thrilled to sponsor the Performing Arts Center’s first event after their prolonged closure,” said Trent Troyer, president and CEO of First Federal Community Bank. “The Performing Arts Center is such an asset to our community, and we’re excited to offer support and play our part in bringing this new experience to life.”
Patrons attending the event will need to bring their own lawn chairs and will be required to wear a face covering when not seated inside their preassigned seating pod. For those curious how the event will work, a complete Frequently Asked Questions can be found at www.kent.edu/tusc/shine-light-faq.
The parking lot will open at 7 p.m., and live premovie entertainment will be provided by local musician Evan Abood. The movie will begin at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the outdoor event must be purchased in advance. Each seating pod is priced at $30, and they are on sale at the Performing Arts Center box office, by calling 330-308-6400 or online at www.kent.edu/tusc/pac. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Performing Arts Center is located on the campus of Kent State Tuscarawas at 330 University Drive NE in New Philadelphia.
