Fatal crash claims the life of Fresno man

| August 10, 2020

Zanesville State Troopers are investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on  SR 16 near mile post two in Coshocton County.  At about 8:30 a.m. Aug. 8, a pick-up pulling a trailer was struck after it became disabled in the roadway.

According to Sgt. Jeffrey Jirles, a 2004 GMC pick-up truck driven by 54 year old Chad Bonifield of Fresno was struck from behind after it became disabled on the roadway. Bonifield was towing a show car on a trailer when troopers say the trailer became disconnected from the truck. Bonifield stopped the truck and trailer in the westbound lanes of SR 16 and was outside of his pick-up when he was fatally struck from behind.

The second vehicle involved was a 2001 Ford pick-up truck driven by 76 year old Darrell Mynes of Millersburg. Sgt. Jirles says, Mynes first struck the trailer then struck Bonifield as he was standing outside of his vehicle.

The highway patrol is still investigating the crash and expects to present the case to the Coshocton County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
