Fundraiser and appreciation day held at AMVETS

COSHOCTON – Shelby Good, 8, and her brother Asa Good, 5, enjoyed playing in a humvee while their dad Stephen Good shared information about the Ohio Army National Guard during an event held at the AMVETS on Sept. 14.

The National Guard was one of several different groups that took part in the Military & First Responders Appreciation Day and Butch Snedeker Memorial DAV Van Fundraiser organized by the DAV Chapter #74 and AMVETS Post 36.

The event was held at the AMVETS and Post Commander Dick Guess said they were glad to help.

“We are here to help support the community,” he said. “We donate around $4,000 to charities each month and that all stays right here in Coshocton County. This (the AMVETS) also is a place for veterans to socialize. Someone who was in a car wreck can’t explain to someone who never has been what it’s like and that’s how it is with veterans. Here they can be around other veterans who understand. We want to help the community and our brothers.”

Guess also hoped the event gave kids in the community a chance to get up close to fire, EMS and sheriff’s office equipment so they weren’t afraid of them during a time of need.

“This is a win for everybody,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it though without the DAV, my officers, our sons and auxiliary. Everyone was part of this.”
