Buxton, Irene001WARSAW – Irene Miriam Buxton, 94, of Warsaw died Saturday, November 5, 2016 at her residence.

She was born March 24, 1922 in Coshocton to the late Leslie and Iola (Blair) Porteus.

Irene was a 1940 graduate of Coshocton High School and a 1946 graduate of Muskingum College.  She was a retired school teacher having taught at New Bedford, Nellie, Newark, & Warsaw.  She was a member of the Nellie Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a long time Sunday School teacher.  She was a member of the County, State, & National Retired Teachers Assn., Walhonding Valley Grange, Coshocton County Farm Bureau, the former local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and served as a 4-H Advisor for over 30 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan McCurdy of Warsaw.  A son, Robert (Chris Slaughter) Buxton of Nellie, and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Buxton of Warsaw.  Eight grandchildren, Emily Adams, Jesse (Meghan) Buxton, Amanda (Tony) Aelker, Charity (Mike) Danjczek, Jim (Kecia) Buxton, Zane (Cindy) Buxton, Tai (Janet) McCurdy, & Bekah (Dane) Peck.  Twelve great grandchildren, Nathan & Julia Adams, Lucianna & Nolan Aelker, Joshua, Kaylah, & Sasha Danjczek, Laurel, Celia, Henry, & Colson Buxton, and Tobias McCurdy.  A brother, Blair Porteus of Coshocton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Buxton, whom she married April 8, 1954, he died May 5, 2008.  She was also preceded in death by a son, James Buxton, a daughter, Martha Buxton, a granddaughter, Margery Buxton, a daughter-in-law, Bev Buxton, and two sisters, Grace Buxton & Lois Wells.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Pastor Ashley McMillin officiating.  Burial will be in the South Lawn Cemetery at Coshocton.  Visitation will be Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 5-7 p.m.  www.fischerfuneralhome.com
