Lloyd W. Hawkins

| November 11, 2020

Lloyd W. Hawkins, 96, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus early Tuesday morning, November 10, after a period of declining health. Lloyd was born to Maldon and Lucy (Cooper) Hawkins of Stillwell on February 21, 1924. He grew up helping his father on the family farm, working intimber, and trapping furs to help make ends meet. After graduation from Killbuck High school, he married Rose (Taylor) Hawkins in 1944. Shortly thereafter he left to serve his country in World War II, seeing action as a Staff Sergeant with the 145th Infantry stationed in Luzon, Philippines. Lloyd worked in timber at his uncle’s sawmill, and in the oil and gas fields,

but mostly was a hard working dairy farmer who husbanded the land as well as raised livestock. He was a devoted follower of Jesus, sang bass with his quartet from Wolf Creek Baptist Church appearing at many area churches. He taught Sunday school for many years, and always encouraged everyone to attend church with their family. He loved to sing in the choir and relished his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s devotion to music as well. He served as Tiverton Township clerk for many years, and was always ready to lend a helping hand and a word of wisdom to anyone who would ask. When Rose’s health began to fail, he became her devoted caregiver until her death in 1998. In 2001, Lloyd married Dana (Cook). Together they purchased a home near Killbuck and Lloyd became “dad” and “grandpa” to another family as well. Lloyd will be greatly missed by his wife Dana, his daughters Linda (Norman) Ream of Wooster, Patty (Dennis) Tumblin of Tiverton, and son –in-law, Roy Weaver of Shreve, a step son, Arthur (Lori) Cook of Indiana, step daughters Sandra Whitley, and Tina (Mike) Galford of Killbuck, aswell as eight grandchildren, many great grandchildren, step grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and their families. He is also survived by a brother Lester (Jeannie) Hawkins of Killbuck. Besides his first wife Rose, Lloyd was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Susan, an infant great-grandchild, his sister Nellie Croskey, and a stepson David Cook. A graveside service, along with military rites by the Coshocton County Joint Veterans Council, will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 14 in the Wolf Creek Cemetery in Stillwell. Pastor Mike Rogers will officiate. The family requests face coverings and distancing for everyone’s well being. Memorial donations are suggested to the Wolf Creek Cemetery Fund, 12049 SR 62 Killbuck, 44637. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements. Condolences can be shared with the family at fischerfuneralhome.com. The family wishes to thank Tina and Mike for caring for Lloyd in his home these last few years.
