Vendor 7 Updates

Hi everyone I hope you’re enjoying the little bit of colder weather that we started having. Even though it may be cold outside, it’s lovely in the greenhouse. I’ve just picked some tomatoes today and we still have flowers blooming. This week I have a selection of greens. Arugula, Boston bib lettuce, curly parsley,  Italian parsley, fresh sage in three different varieties and onion greens. Be looking for more of the Boston bib lettuce in the coming weeks.

Mill Creek Homestead

Hannah’s bread bowls were popular last week! She has more for you this week. If you miss out and would like to make sure you get some, you can place an order for your very own 🙂 French Bread and Artisan Herb Bread will also be available Tuesday morning. The soapy side of Mill Creek Homestead will have several items back in stock.  All Natural Laundry Soap is back on the shelf as well as Lavender Lotion Bars and Wooden Wick Soy Candles – three scents to choose from!

Bob’s Pickle Patch (Verda’s hens)

Where are all the eggs? Local Bounty customers want to know! And that’s just what I ask the hens on these cold winter mornings. We have about 40 laying hens and over a hundred pullets too young to lay eggs. In the winter, hens slow down their production but they don’t slow down their eating. So the same flock that produced about four dozen eggs a day in the spring and summer is now producing less than two dozen a day. So what does a chicken keeper do in winter? We keep them fed and watered, and still open up the doors every day, but they hate to get their feet in snow; only a very brave few go out. Besides that, we stay in and read books. We started in on the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. The dog lovers, the pet lovers, the gardeners, the Christian family. I didn’t realize there were so many. So far we have not seen one about chickens, although we could write one with stories about our chickens. I’d change the title though. Chicken Soup for the Chicken Lover’s Soul just doesn’t sound quite right to me. So now, where are those eggs? We will bring about six dozen in on Wednesday this week, weather permitting!
