Managers Notes

Good Morning Local Foodies!

I am proud to announce we have a new vendor. Sunsational Sunflower oil!

I visited the Sunsational Sunflower Farm yesterday.
It was beautiful, even though the flowers were already harvested, I had a beautiful sunflower dancing in my head.
While I was there, I was shown how the process was done, which was pretty interesting. The sunflower oil is produced in a facility designed exclusively for natural oil.

Ingredients: 100% mechanically (expeller) pressed high oleic sunflower oil.

*GMO free
*Cholesterol free
*0g Trans-fat
*No Hydrogenated fat
*Significant source of Vitamin E
* 100% OHIO

When you get a chance, stop by to try some. The oil has high “smoke point” making it ideal for such pan frying and other high heat applications.

As always thank you for your support!
Have a wonderful autumn week!

Best thoughts,
Kristie

Vendor Updates

Strawberry Hill Farm

More kale is coming to the store today, along with pastured eggs, sweet peppers, and a few fresh herbs. It’s time to make some flavorful soups with potatoes, sweet potatoes, or winter squash. Here is a recipe for Potato Kale Soup:

Kale Potato Soup

1 large onion, chopped

1 tbsp. butter

1 clove garlic, minced

2-3 large potatoes

5 cups water or stock

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tbsp. fresh thyme leaves

Kale

Sauté onion and garlic in butter. Add 2 cups water and potatoes. Simmer, covered, until potatoes start to soften. Wash kale and chop; steam kale separately. When potatoes are well done, purée half with remaining water. Combine all ingredients; add salt and pepper.

We finally have our *new* beer brats in stock this week. Please give them a try and let us know what you think. We’ve also restocked a few roasts, baby back ribs, Canadian bacon and peppered bacon. Thanks as always for your support.

Bob’s Pickle Patch/ Verda’s Hens

When you are shopping this week, get some eggs and sweet potatoes, then you can make this old fashioned sweet potato pie.  This is from a recipe book that was my mom’s.

Sweet Potato Pie

3 eggs, separated                    1 1/2 cups milk

1 c. sugar                                   1 c. warm sweet potatoes

2 tb. butter                                  1 tsp. lemon extract

1 tb. corn starch

Add sugar to beaten egg yolks and add melted butter.  Put sweet potatoes through a ricer and add milk and cornstarch.  Combine all ingredients, adding beaten egg whites last.  Bake in deep unbaked 9″ pie crust at 350 for about 45 minutes.

Since I don’t have a ricer, I just mashed the sweet potatoes.  As for the sugar, I did half a cup of sugar and half a cup of stevia powder (Stevia in the Raw — you can get it at the grocery store.)

Thanks for shopping at Local Bounty

Flying Pig Farm

Did you get your apple butter fix? If you just can’t get enough, try ours! We mix a specific blend of apple varieties to get a perfect blend of sweet and spice…without a lot of added sugar! Try some on toast, oatmeal, yogurt or pound cake for a delicious dessert.

As always thank you for your support!
