Good Morning Local Foodies!

I would like to say Thank You to all our customers who came out to support us on Earth Day! We still have a lot of people from the community that does not know about Local Bounty. With saying this, if you all could share the love about Local Bounty it would be much appreciated.

Flying Pig Farm

This week we will have chicken quarters perfect for grilling with a tasty BBQ sauce! Our chicken is pastured and supplemented with non-GMO grain. We will also bring in a few bags of sorrel. After a quick Google search I learned: “Along with being a unique flavor in your dishes, sorrel also provides significant amounts of fiber, very few calories, almost no fat, and a small amount of protein. In terms of vitamins, it is rich in vitamin C and also contains vitamin A, vitamin B-6, iron, magnesium, potassium, and calcium.” We just know it adds flavor and a nutrition boost to our soups, sautéed greens and mixed greens salads!

Bob’s Pickle Patch/ Verda’s Hens

We will bring in eggs on Thursday this week, plus some sourdough bread, and small cherry pies. There are blueberry pies in the freezer at Local Bounty.

We have two Americana hens sitting on eggs.  Yesterday was their 21st day, and still no peeps, so I’ll keep checking. None of the other hens have decided to go broody yet.

Thanks for shopping at Local Bounty.

Strawberry Hill Farm

Our tomato, pepper, and basil seedlings are growing well and are spending time outdoors getting sturdy and ready for planting. Order forms are in our spot at Local Bounty, along with a color chart that shows the varieties available. Ordering ahead gives you a better chance of getting the seedlings you want, but we will also be bringing a cart of seedlings to the store in May. Erin’s oatmeal bread will still be at the store this week, but with a baby due in just three weeks, the next couple of weeks will be “iffy”!

Mullet Apiaries: Things are really heating up (pun intended) in the hives as the weather warms and spring blooms. In some cases, the bees build up so fast they run out of room and decide it is time to split up their hives by swarming. That’s when the queen and half the hive go to find a new home. It can be intimidating to see a big ball of bees on a fence or in a bush, but they are not interested in you at that time, only finding a new home and gathering around their queen. Beekeepers are willing to come and get them so call the Extension Service, the Sheriff’s office or the county commissioners to get the number of those beekeepers who will do so. In the meantime, come and get some honey for those cool drinks we will all be consuming as we enjoy the sunshine. Thank you, as always, for your business.
