Local Bounty update

| June 27, 2013

Local Bounty Shoppers – Another rainy Thursday…! Strawberries are done for the season, but other yummy farm-fresh produce is making its way into Local Bounty – including zucchini, yellow squash, more greens, etc.

Here’s what some of our vendors have in store for this market week:

Crumb Artisan Breads
A few new items will be available this week: Pitas, deli-style rye, three types of croutons and an improved sourdough loaf. Flax and oat loaves, pretzel buns and farm loaves will also be available.

Keene Creek Farm

All of our farm goodies won’t be at the market until Thursday evening. Marissa is battling a flu bug, so Rowdi will haul everything when he gets off work. We will have little piggies (the breakfast sausage links so many of you have been missing) and cheese brats, more peppered bacon, basil, dill and eggs. We will also try to restock the pizza dough and artisan bread dough mixes.

Strawberry Hill Farm
Our strawberries are finished for this year, but will live on in the 333 jars of jam we made during the season! You can buy it at Local Bounty for the next few months and through the winter, as long as it lasts. This week we’re bringing more romaine lettuce, arugula from a new row and possibly more salad mix, if all the heavy rain didn’t ruin it!

Windy Hill Berry Farm & Vineyard
In case some of you hadn’t heard, something had been getting our chickens. We have found a dead one almost every morning for the past week. So we borrowed a few live traps, baited them with marshmallows (really works!) and waited. We caught something every day this week…five raccoons, one possum and today, a skunk. Unfortunately, thanks to the wind here on Windy Hill Farm, our whole 30 acres smelled like skunk all day. Guess it’s a small price to pay to keep everyone supplied with fresh eggs. This week we will also be bringing English Muffins, Rhubarb, Romaine, Kale, Onions, Yellow Squash and Zucchini. For updates on our berry picking, visit our Facebook page.

Young Farms

The beef freezer was restocked last Saturday, so all of your favorite cuts should be available again.

Thanks so much for your continued support.
