Local Bounty update

| April 23, 2015

We knew it was too good to be true, the colder weather is back but don’t fret, the sun is out! Come by and see what we have in store for you today and tomorrow 10-6, Sat. 9-1.

Next Week: Salad Dressings & Whipped Butters Class (Thursday, April 30)

Want to learn how to make a few super-flavorful salad dressings for the upcoming “greens” season? Or, how about some whipped butters to top off veggies/meat off the grill or some homemade bread? Kristie Henderson and Marissa Mullett will teach a class featuring these two things on Thursday, April 30 from 6-7 p.m. Registration for the class is $10 and is required. Please register by e-mailing [email protected] or signing up in the market. Samples will be plentiful, promise.

Vendor Updates

Flying Pig Farm

We’ve been busy this week! Our plant list is available at the top of our booth. We raise heirloom plants in 3″ peat pots using chemical free growing methods. Just tear out the bottom of the pot and plant. Reserve your plants today! We’ve baked up some fresh goodies in addition to your favorites. As promised we have Strawberry and Blueberry Scones. We also have some scrumptious Lemon Poppyseed Muffins. Try some for breakfast or a quick snack. Did you know croutons make easy work of breading chicken or pork chops? Just pulse in a food processor or blender until crumbs form, dredge meat in melted butter, milk or egg and press on crumbs. The spices are already in the breading! We’ve also used them to make meatballs with delicious results. Wheat and Gluten-free are available this week. We also have Wheat and Gluten-free Sandwich Buns (they were a big hit last week) and Breads. Try some Garlic Herb Bread for an extra special sandwich and Cinnamon Raisin Bread makes wonderful french toast! Thank you again for your support!

Hillbippie

Boy it is pretty up here on the hill, things blooming, wind blowing, sun shining (sometimes anyway).  We are prepping our garden, preparing for our new bees, planting fruit trees and bushes and soaking in spring.  This week at the market I will have Focaccia, topped with cracked pepper, italian seasoning and other delicious spices.  I will also have Full Wheat Bread, made with 100% Prairie Gold Whole Wheat Flour, light and lovely, made with milk and honey!  My teas are stocked and can be enjoyed hot or iced.  Thank you kindly 🙂

Humble Bee Bakery

The sun is shining today! I hope everyone has had a wonderful week so far.  Check out my selections, hope you see something you like!

~Maraschino Cherry Cupcakes – Almond cake with chopped maraschino cherries folded in and cherry juice painted on the top. Almond buttercream infused with more cherry juice and topped with a whole cherry!

~Chocolate PB Cupcakes – Chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream (heavy on the PB!).  Topped with crushed salted pretzels

~Lemon Crumble Bars – they turned out even better this week; grab a pack for an afternoon pick me up!

I’ll be offering the sweet breads on a bi-weekly basis so they will be back soon

Friendly reminder I’ll have 2-3 of my Cupcake Bouquets in the store on Friday, May 8th and they are also available by order until April 30th. Cost is $25 each.

Thank you for your continued support!

Keene Creek Farm

We have been busy hauling, making/mixing and stocking for this market week. Our shelves are reloaded with a fresh batch of Bar Stool Pretzels and some more Aunt M’s Monster Mix. The pizza doughs are holding steady, but we will get more made up in the next couple of weeks. On the animal front: we decided on a name for our boar. His name is Blue (because of his blue markings that reflect the Berkshire breed in his bloodline). We introduced him to our four gilts a few days ago and we are hopeful that he is already earning his keep. The other small batch of piggies we have growing is doing well. They are all so very curious. They’ll soon be big enough to be turned out on the pasture. Our freezer space at LB is completely stocked. We picked up brats (Cajun, Mild Italian, and fresh) from the butcher this week…and of course peppered bacon/Canadian bacon are back too. Also in stock are our popular cheese brats, pork chops (either butter and garlic marinated or straight up), ham loaf and our bulk and sausage patties. As comfort food season turns into grilling season, our roasts will go to the wayside and our brats and other grilling meats will be more plentiful. We pass along our continued gratitude for your support of all local food producers…

Windy Hill Farm
