Mark’s Musings – December 4, 2019

It is hard to believe that the Christmas season is here. With the Thanksgiving holiday being as late as it can possibly be in any year, flipping the calendar to December upon arriving in the office this morning (Monday) brings a bit of reality to the arrival of December 25.

Of course with all the catalogs, “crummy” commercials, emails and internet popups we all know that the holiday season is arriving more rapid than eagles his coursers they came. Yep, took that line from the famous “Twas the Night before Christmas” – a story that was almost not written and certainly not meant to be shared with the public. Glad it was.

Did you make it to the annual Warsaw Lions Club Music & Comedy Show this year? It was a great show filled with fun skits and fantastic musical performances. Our community is so blessed to have all of the wonderful, talented people that are willing to put themselves out in front of an audience and share. Thank you.

The first candle lighting at Roscoe Village is this Saturday evening – the annual Coshocton Community Choir concert is this coming Sunday – opportunities abound for you to refresh and renew your holiday spirit. These are exactly the kind of events and performances that will bring a smile to your face. They are heartwarming and spirit filling.

And to top it all off, Santa Claus arrives in the village of West Lafayette this Saturday – it is always a fun filled parade.

Did you know that NASA’s new rocket is coming to Ohio? Yep. It is going to undergo testing at NASA’s Plum Brook Station near Cleveland. This is the Orion spacecraft for the Artemis I mission – NASA is planning to return to the lunar surface in 2024. You can keep up with all of this at www.nasa.gov.

The Buckeyes deserve a mention with their romp over TTUN on Saturday. The victory vaults the Buckeyes into the BIG conference championship game this Saturday evening at 7 p.m. against the Badgers of Wisconsin. If their previous game is any indication this one should be over by halftime but let’s not get our hopes up – it is difficult to beat the same team twice in the same season – but one thing you can count on is that the Buckeyes will be prepared.

I am not sure that the Browns deserve a mention – they are out of the playoffs barring any kind of small miracle at this point. A disappointing season for sure – offensive play calling seems to be their downfall – why can’t the Browns get the number one receiver in all of football more involved in the game? And if he is covered, doesn’t that mean someone else is not? Last time I checked each team has 11 players on the field. Something just seems off – and Mayfield was not accurate in the second half for sure. I think it will take more games for the Browns to start clicking like they should. Nothing against the Steelers but the Browns got beat by a third string quarterback. I don’t look for Coach Kitchens to return next season. And the tee shirt that he wore – that’s just not wise.

Three weeks from this Tuesday evening (Dec. 3) one of the greatest Christmas movies of all time returns!
