Opal O. (Green) Stockum

Opal O. (Green) Stockum, age 95, of North Canton, formerly of West Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at St. Luke Lutheran Community in North Canton, Ohio.

She was born December 7, 1916 in Boone, NC; a daughter of the late Harvey and Roxie (Marley) Green.

Opal, her parents and her siblings moved to Coshocton County in 1921. In 1935, she graduated High School in Plainfield, OH and married Carl Ward Stockum who preceded her in death on April 16, 1981. She was a homemaker and will always be remembered for the large family gatherings at her home and delicious home cooked meals. Opal was also a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of East Palestine.

Opal is survived by her son, Richard (Betty) Stockum of Wadsworth, OH; daughter-in-law, Donnabel of Alpharetta, GA, and daughter-in-law Billie of Lawrenceburg, IN; five grandchildren, Thomas Stockum of Medina, OH, Susan Stockum (Eric Mansfield) of North Canton, OH, Jana Stockum (Jason Wong) of Lakewood, CA, Matthew (Allison) Stockum of Cumming, GA, and Daniel (Beth) Stockum of Smyrna, GA; and six great-grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Mansfield, Ella and Emelia Stockum, Cody Wong and Kaden Stockum.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Larry Stockum and William Stockum; sisters, Edna Baker, Velva Eblin, and Buelah Jennings; and brothers, Carl Green, Haze Green, Hoy Green and Fred Green.

A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Given-Dawson Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Plainfield Cemetery.
