Our Town Stories to discuss department stores

| May 2, 2019

COSHOCTON – Department stores, the next topic for the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum’s Our Town Stories, will be Tuesday, May 9 at noon. Do you remember shopping at Jupiter, O’Neil’s or J.C. Penny? These once popular department stores offered a wide range of consumer goods in different product groupings, known as “departments”. Making a dramatic appearance in the middle of the 19th century, the department store shaped shopping habits and the definition of service and luxury. Come share your memories with us during our hour-long discussion. Always a great conversation!

JHM’s Our Town Stories gathering occurs monthly on the second Thursday of the month at noon. The conversation animates “the old days” as we conjure up memories, share personal stories, and recall Coshocton County as it once was. All are welcome to participate, whether you grew up in Coshocton or not. The atmosphere is casual and the discussion is always informative, fun and surprising. Admission for the program is free, and beverages and cookies will be provided. Bring your sandwich and make the most of your lunch break.

June’s topic is “Weddings”. For more information, contact the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum at 740-622-8710 or jhmuseum@jhmuseum.org. The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum is located at 300 N. Whitewoman St., Coshocton. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. After Memorial Day, the hours are noon – 5 p.m. daily.
