Recovery Rally held on court square

COSHOCTON – “Hope is for everybody – you just gotta wait for their time to get here,” said Rachel Lahna, a peer supporter at Coshocton Behavioral Health Choices. She is also in recovery herself – for 16 months.

“I never dreamed I would be working where I got my recovery from, but I’m so excited to be here. It’s amazing.” Lahna took classes on her own to be a peer supporter and was surprised to be offered a job at CBHC.

Lahna said she wanted to form an alumni group of people that have found their recovery and that the group wants to give back to the community. On 9/11, several volunteers took meals to local first responders at the fire department, sheriff’s office and the EMS. “It’s good to show the first responders some of the people they have helped. They saved our lives.”

This is the second event for the group. September is National Recovery Month so they plan to have a larger event each September with smaller service projects every month. Anyone in any type of recovery is welcome, from drugs and alcohol to mental health issues.

“We wanted to do something to bring more awareness to the community about the road of recovery,” said Lahna. The rally included many games for children, sno cones, dance contests and food. She said they wanted to do something for the children and families to have fun.

At dusk, a candle lighting was held for each of the alumni who was there.  Lahna announced how long their recovery was, from one day to many years, and lit a candle for the person.

Lahna would like to invite anyone in any stage of recovery to be part of their group. For more information, you may call her at CBHC at 740-622-0033.
