Ridgewood wrestling takes runner-up trophy

COSHOCTON – The Ridgewood wrestling team earned District III honors on Saturday, March 4 by taking the team runner-up trophy out of 51 school teams competing. Ridgewood earned 118.5 points with eight wrestlers participating.

Six Ridgewood wrestlers advanced to the state tournament in Columbus following district 3 wrestling action at Coshocton.
Three wrestlers advanced automatically by placing in the top four in finals from Saturday: Former state qualifier Colten Bethel in 106 was district champion, Javon Merrill at 160 placed fourth, and Kasey Bethel at 170 took second.
Three wrestlers placed fifth as state alternates: Tyler Caudy in the 132 pound class, Nate Thompson at 195 and former state qualifier James Kedigh at 220 make the trip also with a chance to wrestle if a placer in their prospective weight class is unable to participate.

Three Coshocton wrestlers qualified for state: Lucian Brink, Austin Guthrie, and Blake Barrick each placed second in their prospective weight classes. State wrestling started Thursday, March 9 at the Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
