COSHOCTON – There will be several new faces at Sacred Heart School to welcome students to the 2017/2018 school year and a few staff members will be taking on new roles.

Heading up the staff will be Principal Mary Kobel who is replacing Mary Stenner who retired. Kobel has taught at the school for 10 years and is excited to take on her new role.

“Sacred Heart has been a part of my family for many years,” Kobel said.

Her grandmother, mother, she and all her siblings and her three children all attended the school.

“I’ve seen firsthand the benefits of a Catholic education,” Kobel said.

Her staff this year will include Amber Lonsinger – preschool teacher / intervention specialist; Valeree Bryant – all day pre-k; Stephanie Myers – kindergarten teacher; Britanie Powers – first / second grade teacher; Sheryl Moses – third / fourth grade; Lisa Myers – fifth / sixth grade teacher; and Carrie Garabrandt – secretary.

This is Lonsinger’s first year at the school and she is excited to switch from teaching junior high students to working with preschoolers.

“I love that age because they have a real passion for school,” she said. “They get excited and you can do fun activities with them without them knowing they are learning.”

Powers is fresh out of college and is looking forward to an awesome year.

“I’ve heard how excellent a Catholic School education is,” she said.

This also will be Stephanie Myers first year teaching.

“I’ve always loved kindergarten and it’s actually my kindergarten teacher that brought me to teaching,” she said. “I think it’s the building block for the rest of your learning.”

Lisa Myers has previous teaching experience and is ready to share it with students at Sacred Heart.

“I really like that we have a good bit of technology here to use with the iPads, SMART boards and computer lab,” she said.

Moses will switch this year from kindergarten to third and fourth grade.

“I like that age because they are becoming independent and are able to work on their own,” she said. “They are blossoming and it’s exciting to see them learn.”

Bryant is the other returning teacher and she is ready for little kids to return to her classroom.

“They are like sponges,” she said. “They soak everything up.”

Also returning is Garabrandt.

“This is a great environment to work in,” she said. “It’s nice to see everyone come together and help each other get through the day.”

Registration is currently open for all grades and grants are available for pre-k through fourth grade. For more information, visit www.sacredheartcoshocton.org/school or call the school office at 740-622-3728.

“We are a Catholic school and teach the Catholic religion in school, but we are happy to take students of all faiths and backgrounds and help them on their own spiritual journeys,” Kobel said.

The student teacher ratio is 10-1 and all teachers are fully accredited and licensed in their areas. Kobel added that there also are plenty of opportunities for parents to get involved at the school.

“We have a positive environment that is a balance of discipline and structure and warm loving relationships with students and their families,” Kobel said.
