Small animals and market hogs shown Sunday at the fair

Sunday afternoon, Oct. 4, the Coshocton County Junior Fair hosted the 2020 Small Animal Show where 4-H goers got to showcase their small animals. The animals that were shown included cats, a guinea pig and a turtle.

In the cat showing, Ashlyn Tumblin from Winner club placed first with her cat, Mud. Second place was Taryn Tumblin, also from the Winner 4-H club. Tayler Brehm and Kaylee Brehm took third and fourth place. Both girls are members of the Hooves, Hands and Hearts 4-H club. Fifth place went to Catelyn Cox of Mohawk Valley.

Kaylee Brehm was the only participant to show in the guinea pig category and subsequently took first place with her guinea pig, Lucy.

Similarly, Cassadee Woodward Wells with Lucky Learners 4-H club was the only participant to show in the reptile showing. Therefore, she and her turtle Temperance took first place.

The Cat and Small Animal Showmanship was separated into three categories, Senior Showmanship, Junior Showmanship and Supreme Showmanship. In the Senior Showmanship it was Catelyn Cox with her cat that took first place while Kaylee Brehm took second with her guinea pig. Ashlyn Tumblin was the first place winner in the Junior Showmanship. Second place went to Taryn Tumblin, and third was awarded to Taylor Brehm. Cassadee Woodward Wells was the only participant in the Supreme Showmanship and took home first place.

Sponsors for the 2020 Small Animal Show included the Smailes Family and Cannon Boer Goats. Judging was Michael Stead, a student at Welmington College studying to become a vet.

The 2020 Market Hog Show also took place on Sunday, Oct. 4. The Single Barrow show was divided into eight sub classes in an effort to get all of the hogs shown while minimizing the number of participants in each ring. Similarly, the Single Gilt was divided into eight sub classes for the same purpose.

First place winners from the Single Barrow showing were as follows. Sub class 1 first place winner was Cody Thompson with Ridgewood FFA. First place winner from sub class 2 was Alyza Fender Ridgerunners 4-H club. Lucky Learners 4-H club member, Kyler Thompson won first place in sub class 3. Sub class 4 first place winner was Kalie Rettos, a member of Ridgewood FFA. Kamryn McGinnis with Winner 4-H club took home first place in the sub class 5. Sub class 6’s first place went to Go Getters 4-H member, James Herron. Mairin Mullett with Keene Kountry Kids 4-H won first in sub class 7.

Kalie Rettos won Champion Market Barrow, and Reserve Champion Market Barrow went to Kyler Thompson.

Some of the Single Gilt first place winners included Jakob Arnold with Country Kids 4-H club, Jaiden Arnold with Country Kids 4-H club, Luke Massie with Magic Makers 4-H club, Rylee Shrimplin with Winner 4-H club, and James Herron with Go Getters.

Sponsors for the 2020 Market Hog Show were Gerald and Judy Finlay, Endsley Insurance, Magic Makers 4-H club, WenMar Farms Inc., and In Memory of Randy Will.
