Swimmers compete at Northridge Viking Classic

GAMBIER – The River View and Coshocton swim teams competed in the annual Viking Classic meet hosted by Northridge at Kenyon College on Jan. 4. There were more than 500 swimmers in 22 events. Points were awarded through 16th place, with a maximum of one relay and two individuals in each event.

The River View boys placed third out of 23 teams behind Granville and Watkins Memorial. The River View girls placed 11th out of 24 teams. The Coshocton girls finished 16th and the boys tied for 20th.

Placing in the top 16 in relays for the Black Bears were: Brady Philabaum, Brayden Karr, Cole Tatro, and JT Roberts – fifth in the 200 Medley (1:53.70), with Luke Massie, Gavin Donnell, Andrew Martin, and Lincoln Shroyer 11th (1:58.90), Shroyer, Karr, Roberts, and Reas Pepper were fourth in the 200 Free (1:40.38), and Malek Better, Martin, Zachariah Phillips, and Coen Bible were fifth (1:43.77), and Bible, Philabaum, Tatro, and Pepper were fourth in the 400 Free Relay (3:45.99), with Brice Cross, Massie, Better, and Ahmed Perez 11th (4:00.57).

Individually for the boys, Brady Phillabaum was fifth in the 100 Back (1:03.43), and 10th in the 200 IM (2:29.62), Cole Tatro was sixth in the 200 IM (2:22.94), and 11th in the 100 Fly (1:02.01), Brayden Karr was sixth in the 100 Breast (1:12.73), and 15th in the 100 Fly (1:06.87), Reas Pepper was seventh in the 100 Free (54.86), and eighth in the 50 Free (24.79), Coen Bible was 11th in the 100 Free (55.71), and 14th in the 50 Free (25.06), Zachariah Phillips was 14th in the 500 Free (6:16.23), and 15th in the 200 Free (2:11.12), Lincoln Shroyer was 10th (24.87), and JT Roberts 13th (25.02) in the 50 Free, Luke Massie as 10th (1:05.32) in the 100 Back, Ahmed Perez was 12th (6:13.85) in the 500 Free, and Gavin Donnell was 16th (1:17.40) in the 100 Breast.

In the River View girls’ relays, Katie Hardesty, Aliya Stevens, Berta Vidal, and Lindsey Ashcraft were ninth in the 200 Medley (2:12.35), Ashcraft, Hardesty, Michaela White, and Vidal were ninth in the 200 Free (1:59.03), and MaryAnn Lozowski, Rachel Vandenbark, Raychel Smalley, and White were 15th in the 400 Free (4:47.93).

Individually, Berta Vidal was second in both the 100 Fly (1:01.84), and the 100 Back (1:02.46), and Lindsey Ashcraft was 10th in the 100 Breast (1:19.93).

For the Coshocton girls, the 200 Medley Relay of Autumn Jones, Ella Baylor, Peyton Modlin, and Bella Hall was 13th (2:17.50), and the 400 Free Relay of Hall, Kendall Jackson, Jones, and Modlin was 16th (4:48.55).

Individually, Autumn Jones was 10th overall in the 100 Back for the girls’ team (1:14.51), and Aiden Stein was 15th in the 100 Back for the boys (1:11.60).
