Hillis is new funeral director at Miller Funeral Home

| February 11, 2019

COSHOCTON – Miller Funeral Home & Crematory welcomes Jack Hillis to the business as a funeral director and embalmers apprentice.

Hillis is a Zanesville native and graduated from Zanesville High School in 2013. He is the third generation of his family to pursue a career in funeral service. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati in 2017, he attended the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and graduated in 2018.

He spent a lot of time at his Grandfather’s (Jim Hillis) funeral home as a child, and he always looked up to him and his passion with serving families. After spending five years in Cincinnati, Hillis wanted to continue his career back in a community closer to his family. Being family-oriented, he wanted to work at a family-owned funeral home that instilled the same values he grew up admiring.

As a funeral director apprentice, Hillis will work under the supervision of owner Matthew T. Miller. He will meet with families to arrange services, as well as all other tasks for funeral preparations. He is the son of Scott and Lisa Hillis and has two brothers, Christopher and Dakota. He is the grandson of Jim and Sue Hillis.

“We’re so fortunate and excited to have someone from a nearby community that’s pursued a career path of funeral service and was excited to come back and work putting families first,” said Miller, funeral director and owner of the family-owned business which opened in 2011.

Hillis believes he’ll be able to offer some fresh ideas to the business due to his age and being a new graduate. He’s excited about putting his passion for people to good use.

“I’m unbelievably thankful and lucky that Matt gave me this opportunity,” he said. “I love what they do and how they do it. I’m so proud to be part of a family owned funeral home that puts families first.”

While settling into Coshocton, Hillis enjoys going to movies, playing basketball, fishing, and watching the Cleveland Browns.
