Local Bounty update

| August 22, 2013

The past few weeks haven been busy, busy, busy. Squeezing in last-minute vacations, gearing up for back to school and just trying to enjoy what’s left of summer.

We’re gearing up for our Farm to Table Dinner this weekend and are looking forward to seeing some of you there. We can’t wait for you to experience the fruits of our labor.

Here’s what our vendors will have in the store for you all this week:

Hiland Naturals Meats

We have lots of ground chicken available. There are also a few packages of our maple-flavored sausage links left in the freezer. Our whole birds are great for roasting or grilling with some fresh herbs.

Keene Creek Farm

We’ve restocked some of our pork products, but what you’re all waiting anxiously for isn’t ready yet…peppered bacon and Canadian bacon won’t be done until next week (earliest). But, we do have plenty of brats, loin chops (the butter/garlic marinated ones are back, but selling quickly). We’ve also restocked our MSG-free sausage (a breakfast blend seasoning in bulk and patties). If you’re doing any pie baking, pick up a tub of our lard to use. It keeps well in the refrigerator or freezer.

Maple Hollow Farm

Did you try our sweet corn last week? We will have more available this week. The crop is a little late, but better late then never.

Wholesome Valley Farm

Our freshly bottled milk is great over granola for a quick back-to-school breakfast. The raw goat milk cheeses we’ve stocked are perfect for a high-protein snack or complement to a summer salad. They’re also tasty in scrambled eggs or in a roasted vegetable quiche.

Windy Hill Berry Farm & Vineyard

Hi folks. This week we will have boxes of tomatoes available for your canning needs. That way you can put the freshness of the season into jars to use later this winter to make healthy soups, stews and chili dishes to ward off those winter colds and flues. Also, cucumbers and red onions for making easy refrigerator pickles, or add sour cream to cucumbers and onion with dill weed for a delicious summer side dish. Rosemary, chives, cherry tomatoes, English muffins and free-range eggs round out our farm’s offerings. Chicken joke of the week:  Why did the rooster run away? He was chicken!

Young Farms

Some of the beef cuts are running low. Ben will try to restock the ground beef this weekend. More steaks and other cuts will be available in the next couple of weeks.
