Maxine Miller

COSHOCTON – Maxine Addelyn (Cheney/Patterson) Miller, age 94 formerly of Coshocton, Ohio went home to meet her Savior on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home of Walnut Creek, Ohio where she had been a resident for several years.

Maxine was born on July 11, 1923 in Coshocton County, Ohio to Floyd and Gladys (Price) Cheney. She graduated from Roscoe High School in the class of 1941. She worked at Edmonts in the lab for 11 years where she met Thomas Noel Patterson, son of Angus & Cora Patterson. They were married on October 18, 1952. Maxine’s mother passed away before she was married and Tom’s parents became like parents to her. She was known as “Macky” to her family and “Grandma Pat” to her grandchildren. She loved music and played the guitar and harmonica. Tom & Maxine enjoyed square dancing and were members of a western square dancing group. Maxine also enjoyed camping, gardening, sled riding and feeding the birds. She loved animals and in her lifetime had many favorite pets. Along with her mother, and mother-in-law she found great joy in growing lilacs. She was also passionate about cooking and baking. In later years after her children were out of school, she worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Coshocton Memorial Hospital and was there for 7 years.

She was a member of Keene United Methodist church, Keene Hill Grange, Farm Bureau Council-Millcreek, Millvale Neighbors-Chapel Belles and Indiana Historical Radio Society. Tom passed away on March 3, 1990 and on September 23, 1995 she married Robert (Bob) F. Miller who preceded her in death on September 4, 2010. Maxine was a thyroid cancer survivor.

Surviving are three children: Mary F. Patterson of Coshocton, Susan E. (Bryan) Forbes of West Salem and Michael T. (Sandy King) Patterson of Millersburg. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Thomas W. Patterson, Amy E. Forbes, Joshua E. Forbes, Rebekah E. Forbes and Bethany E. Forbes.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Gene P. Cheney, Floyd Simon Cheney, and James G. Cheney; two sisters: Eloise F. Starcher and Gladys Faye Walters.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday January 20, 2018 at Free Funeral Home with Pastor Dairel L. Kaiser officiating. Burial will be at South Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Free Funeral Home and one hour prior to service on Saturday. Free Funeral home will be handling the arrangement.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the many wonderful caregivers that she had over the last few years.
